In Loving Memory

It’s a sad, sad thing that we must add a second page onto our Lost Loved Ones section of this website.  But you know what I think?  God only gives them to us for a short while, because there are so many more who need us. We need to appreciate every moment we have with them, the good, bad and the ugly.  Think like a dog, live in the moment!

It is with great sadness we share the passing of Piper, due to hypothermia.  Her family was lucky to have her body returned for good byes.

LENA ANDERSON

May 17th, 2007 - February 5th, 2010

Adopted by the Anderson’s in 2007, kicked off Lena’s career in fostering, but mainly in just being a pampered pooch by her family.  Lena got to run, unhindered by leashes and chains, she got to sleep in the house, wherever she wanted.  And on this Friday, God called Lena home for some crazy reason, when she was hit by a car & died as a result of those injuries.

RIP Lena, we loved you well...

Seneca

Adopted 2005

Passed Away 1/27/10

You had a pretty nice 5 year run Seneca.  You gave your family so much joy!  It’s been such a blur your mom says since you left us...and we certainly know how time flies when you’re havin fun!  You were a fun girl Seneca!  You brought such joy to us all.  We all loved you a lot.  We know you are in a place where there is no more pain, and that we’ll see you again one day.

Rest in Peace Seneca!

Heidi Tubbin

Born 7/21/01

Passed Away 2/26/10

Heidi and her sister were owner surrenders to rescue.  Heidi preferred a quiet life, but she did tolerate other dogs & kids along her way.  Just look at her smile in the picture!  Heidi had a great life with the Tubbins!

We were saddened to know that cancer took Heidi away from us too soon just like her sister.  Perhaps they are together hunting fields again now?  We’ll miss you ole girl.  We loved you well.  Rest in peace Heidi.

Miss Callie Davies

Adopted 1999

Passed Away 7/26/10

Adopted from German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue of WI back in 1999, Callie lived a charmed life, and she, herself fostered many rescue dogs along the way.  Callie was a character, and she ruled the roost at Barb’s house.  She put many of those rescue dogs in their places thru the years.  Callie survived many health issues in her later years, but sadly her body just gave out and Barb had to do the right thing to help Callie on her way.  We’ll sure miss you crazy girl.

Penny Golla

Born 2/20/2002

Adopted 3/24/2009

Sent on her way... 8/27/10

Penny was a ‘trade’ to Katie & Caleb, when the first gsp they adopted was just way too much for them.  Penny was an owner surrender to WGSPR, by a person who saved her life first!  She came in a lumpy girl, and we did remove a lump from her leg first thing .  Penny was what we lovingly refer to as a “money pit”.  She was always in and out of the vets office with something or another.  Penny loved her nice, quiet life with Katie & Caleb & family. She rode with Katie everywhere!  Penny had been a hunter in her former life, but she stayed close in this new life.  Penny even guarded her family when their place had an intruder recently!  But alas, Penny’s lumps were back, Penny didn’t want to eat, or move around much anymore...there comes a time when you have to decide when enough is enough.  And Katie made that very brave decision on Penny’s behalf.  Penny was loved by many, including her foster mom, Nancy Anderson, and all who met her.

What I think is:  We only get to hold them a short time, because where are so many more who need us.

We loved you well, Penny.  Run free now!

Manitowoc Co’s Rocky

May 1, 1998 - October 15, 2009

One day in January 2006 after many months of talking about getting a dog, I fell lovingly upon this website which had a blind or nearly blind puppy up for adoption.  I inquired and was told that this puppy was already taken.  I shortly got an email from Lisa asking if I would possibly consider adopting an older dog.  I didn’t know how I felt at the time, because Lisa described a dog she had and his name was Rocky.  Michael wasn’t sure either, but we talked about it, and I offered, I am not young anymore, maybe I would like to take a dog for a walk instead of a dog taking me for a walk.  We decided we wished to meet Rocky.  Lisa brought him over and this beautiful boy walked into our lives.  It was as so often happens, love at first sight.

This bright shining boy, through all of his health problems and only a miniscule amount of what would be described as behavior problems, changed our lives forever.  He has been our loving companion, a clown when we needed to laugh, and understanding ear when I needed to talk, Michael rarely went anywhere without him as one of Rocky’s top five was riding with Dad, me being a close second.

The best things in life for Rocky:

Being petted or cuddled

Riding in Dad’s truck

Riding in Mom’s car

Going to see Grandma & Grandpa

Eating peanut butter toast and grilled cheese sandwiches

Laying in the yard, sniffing the air

Squirrels

Chipmunks

His swimming pool

And possibly #1…being told he was a “Very Good Boy” He would raise his paw to tell anyone that he was just that, and he was a “Very Good Boy”.

We wish to thank Lisa and the organization for the wonderful Reunion which was Rocky’s last hurrah…he had a blast..un-tethered..smelling everything and anyone…

Shortly after the party, Rocky became ill…it wasn’t severe at first..when it became so we took him to his vet…we agreed to try meds, a couple of shots to see if we could make him well again.  Rocky’s illness sped up, he quit eating, and he began to seizure. The last one he had was a full Grand Mal which lasted 15-20 minutes, leaving him blind, most likely deaf, and he could not walk.  Rocky convinced us that day, October 15th, that it was time to let him go.  We agreed with our heads…and we know our hearts will follow.  Around 9:30 that evening we helped Rocky pass away…he died in our arms…and now can run the fields of heaven with no leads…no leashes…no need to pick a lock on a gate…

Well this is our Rock…a intelligent, intuitive, lovely GSP, who brought much joy into our family.

Dear Lisa,   It is with great sadness that I am writing to you. On October 24, 2009 our beloved Markie was laid to rest. It was the hardest decision we have ever had to make, but in our hearts we know it was the best one. Markie was a great companion, big brother, and protector and our lives will never be the same without him. Thank you Lisa! It is because of you (GSP Rescue) that we were able to give Markie the love he needed and deserved even if only for a short period of time. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Jodi & Wes Weber

WGSPR saved Markie from Eau Claire shelter 5/6/07.  He was a GSP mix, perhaps not even GSP?  Markie carried aggressive issues, even experienced trainers could not figure out.  I respect Wes and Jodi’s decision to free Markie from his demons.  I’ll always wish it could have been different.  Rest in peace Markie, we loved you well.

Bayfield Co’s Sierra

BD-Unknown - December 15, 2009

You were a labor of love Sierra, right from the “get go”.  We got you from a shelter way up north, where you were found astray with a wound to your foot.  The shelter had your foot fixed, but it got horribly infected, and there was always the wonder if it was cancer.  Your foster dad, Joe, got you all patched up and Marv Owens decided to take a chance on you no matter what the outcome.  And Marv also continued the labor of love, dealing with that foot as it did turn out to be cancer and even surgery to stop it did not work, Marv and Laurie did the right thing and helped you to the other side so there is no more pain.  You had a good run our girl.  You weren’t even home a year; what a disaster...  Just know, we loved you well in the time we had you and we sure put you in good hands for what you had left.  Rest in peace Sierra.  Next time we see you, you will be all new again.
