Chloe

Chloe was surrendered to WI shelter mid March.  Chloe was born 06/17/05, we have her AKC pedigree papers for transfer.  Chloe has field trial breedingl!  Don’t let that sweet face fool you, Chloe is VERY prey driven, very high energy, needs to run and WILL run, totally needs recall training!  She shuts the hearing OFF when outside!  Is potty trained, is crate trained.  Does not like rude dogs in her face, will growl over treat with another dog.  Does retrieve pretty good, rides pretty decent in a vehicle.  Can be a slippery runner, and possible fence jumper.  Knows basic obedience commands, not so much “stay”!   Sleeps in bed at night, crated for work during the day.  Good with kids.  Fenced yard is a MUST!  NO CATS!  Experienced handler a must!  This girl could go places!  Talk to us!

Hogan’s No Doubt Scout

Scout, aka “Scotty” is back with WGSPR!  Scout’s adopter’s work situation changed and Scout was not happy about that, so we seek a new home for Scout!  Scout just turned 6 yrs old, 3/25/09; we have Scout’s AKC pedigree papers! All vet work is up to date, Scout would be best with a stay at home type, a part timer, or work-out-of-the-house sort...he loves his people!  Scout is a BIG guy (80 lbs) and pretty laid back.  Fine with other dogs, ok with kids as young as 5.  NO CATS.  Not a hunter! Is electric-fence trained.  Would be best with a tall, sturdy physical fence containment.  Scout is a couch potato, with a really kissy face!  Knows basic commands & hand signals.

Are you Scotty’s next stop?

You all beg us for those nice GSP lab mixes, well here you are!  This is Peggy Sue!  Peg came to us named Paris, however, we found out thru a doggie communicator, she HATES that name, so we are trying something new to see if we can gain her confidence back.  Peg was owner surrender to shelter, we find her to be an awesome girl! Peg just turned 2 yrs old, very prey driven, NO CATS!  Will be a hunter! Has a nice point!  Peg is BLACK, with full tail.  She can run like the wind!  Is e-collar trained for off leash!  But if you don’t have one, do not trust her off lead!  While Peg really, secretly hates other dogs if introduced properly, we are having no problems. The reader felt that Peggy was the runt of the litter, and attacked and bullied by other dogs in her past, making her insecure, and react.  Peggy is living with a male GSP, with no issues. We think she’d probably be best with experienced handler, but not necessarily an only dog (if intros are done properly, you’ll have no problems). Is potty trained & crate trained; all vet work is current.  Peg is absolutely beautiful, on the smaller side!  We recommend older kids, teens would be best, for security reasons only!  Peg will alert you for burglars but if you don’t like that, a cheap bark collar works well.  Secure fenced yard for Peg please!  Contact us if you are interested in Peg!

*HELP* For Lucy Loo?

Lucy Loo seeks a new home. She’s about 6-7 yrs old, has anxiety issues, is NOT a hunter, has thunderstorm phobias, is nervous in a crate, but will go in there.  Lucy is a lover and cuddler.  She needs more of a stay at home type, to calm her fears of being abandon.  Lucy originally came from a shelter, and her current owners have had her 4 years.  They just want a great home that can fill Lucy’s needs better then they are able.  No cats!        Contact us!

Owner SurrendersEVERYONE is going thru hard times right now!  When considering to surrender your dog, think very seriously about the consequences for that dog.  Think of the trauma it will inflict?  Think of a way to keep your dog at all costs, they WILL adapt, as you adapt.

While it is this rescue's first priority to purebred GSPs in shelters, whose days are numbered and fate is inevitable; WGSPR will do it's best to help owner surrenders re-home their GSPs as we can.  We may not always have immediate space to take your dog, you might have to be prepared to hold it for a bit, because shelter dogs come first!!  PLEASE, we are not exactly made of money either; have your dog altered, up to date on all vaccines, proof of heartworm status, and for a donation to WGSPR your dog will be placed on our website, and Petfinder for adoption.  We NETWORK for these dogs!  All potential adopters will be screened prior to meeting with your dog.  Your dog will be processed thru WGSPR for adoption, and adopter will sign our standard adoption contract to protect your dog's best interest for the rest of his life.  We have a life time return policy.

Surrendering Your Dog to RescueFood for Thought...

HUNTER! Need we say more?

Lovely house dog &

Potential, potential...

NEW! Chief

This is Chief, who we are told is around 9 months old; altered male, surrendered to shelter.  Very high energy!  He is HUGE!  Obnoxious and slightly naive!  His foster got potty training under control in one week!  He’s a very smart boy!  Loves beer!  Will clean ditches on your walk, espec beer cans!  Haha! Whatta character this one is!  Chief will be a hunter, but we don’t care if he does or not.  We need someone with energy to keep up with this kid!  Chief is ok with cats, dogs & kids.

Ball freak alert!

Adoption Pending!

poor Lena!

This is one very nice girl!  Lacey came from a WI shelter recently where she was a stray.  She can be a little possessive about food & treat, but if handled properly, NO ISSUES.  We found her to be very gentle taking treats from hand, we grabbed her tail, pulled her ears and picked up her feet as to clip nails was extremely tolerant of all 3 things. Shook keys and swiped hand over her head and near her face NO Reaction just wanted to run and play. Kneeled near her face holding her nose and she jumped up and hugged me.  Does not appear to be a cat killer, thankfully. All vet work is current, is heartworm negative and on prevention.  It is unknown if Lacey is a hunter.  Does fine with kids as small as a year old!  LOVES KIDS!  Needs recall training, we think she may have hunt potential.  Needs some fetch work for retrieve.  Lacey is very small, only 38 lbs at present.  We are trying to put some meat on her bones now.  Tons of energy!  Need active family, who will take Lacey the rest of the way.  Sweet natured girl!  Fenced yard would be a plus!  For more info, contact us!

NOTES FROM SCOUT’S FOSTER MOM!

I took him to my vet for weight;  Now weighs 82.9 lbs.
Respects his position in my home with two 8 year old
English Pointers:  1 male, 1 female.
Female is alpha. I feed all 3 at the same time he finishes first and leaves the kitchen when done
All 3 take treats from me each taking their turns (whoever sits first gets the treat first, etc)
He is patient, kind a coach potato.
No problem leaving all 3 alone in the house.  They share the sofa.
Does not want to sleep on a memory dog bed or anything else on the floor.
Sleeps on my sofa and would love to sleep on a human bed.
Has been to the dog park(on check cord and leash)  Did fine with other dogs, people and listening to me.
Is e-fence trained, but that took A LOT OF WORK.  So only experienced handlers need apply!  Unless you have a fenced yard please!
When I cook and eat I tell him to go and motion to the living room, he goes and stays there until I finish.
Really, really great, he has learned WAIT.  Always waits at the
patio door when I let other dogs out and then put the rope on him so he can go out.  Also waits to get out of the car nicely.
Does not sit very well on command except when there is food for a prize.
No problem with treat or food possessions.  I can move food, take food, treats without a problem.
Does lay down and stay quite well.

Due to the high volume of calls we have been receiving, please listen closely to the following options and choose the one that best describes you or your situation:   Press 1 if you think we are veterinarians and want free medical advice.  Press 2 if you know we are a rescue organization but want to save money and have us give you free, untrained medical advice anyway.  Press 3 if you make $200,000 a year but still want us to pay to spay the "stray" in your yard (house). Press 4 if you have a 10-year-old dog and your 15-year-old son has suddenly become allergic and you need to find the dog a new home right away.  Press 5 if you have three dogs, had a baby and want to get rid of your dogs  because you are the only person in the world to have a baby and dogs at the same time.  Press 6 if your dog is sick and needs a vet but you need the money for your vacation.  Press 7 if you just got a brand new puppy and your old dog is having problems adjusting so you want to get rid of the old one right away.  Press 8 if your little puppy has grown up and is no longer small and cute and you want to trade it in for a new model.  Press 9 if you are elderly and want to adopt a cute puppy who is not active and is going to outlive you.  Press 10 if your relative has died and you don't want to care for their elderly dog because it doesn't fit your lifestyle. Press 11 if you are moving today and need to immediately place your 150 pound, 8-year-old dog.  Press 12 if you want an unpaid volunteer to come to your home today and pick up the dog you no longer want.  Press 13 if you have been feeding and caring for a "stray" for the last three years, are moving and suddenly determine it's not your dog.  Press 14 if you are calling at 6 am to make sure you wake me up before I have to go to work so you can drop a dog off on your way to work.  Press 15 to leave us an anonymous garbled message, letting us know you have left a dog in our yard in the middle of January, which is in fact, better than just leaving the dog with no message.  Press 16 if you are going to get angry because we are not going to take your dog that you have had for fifteen years, because it is not our responsibility. Press 17 if you are going to threaten to take your ten year old dog to be euthanized because I won't take it.   Press 18 if you're going to get angry because the volunteers had the audacity to go on vacation and leave the dogs in care of a trusted volunteer who is not authorized to take your personal pet.  Press 19 if you want one of our perfectly trained, housebroken, kid and cat friendly purebred tiny dogs that we have an abundance of.   Press 20 if you want us to take your dog that has a slight aggression problem, i.e. has only bitten a few people and killed your neighbor's cats.  Press 21 if you have already called once and been told we don't take personal surrenders but thought you would get a different person this time with a different answer.  Press 22 if you want us to use space that would go to a stray to board your personal dog while you are on vacation, free of charge, of course.  Press 23 if it is Christmas Eve or Easter morning and you want me to deliver an eight week old puppy to your house by  6:30 am before your kids wake up. Press 24 if you have bought your children a duckling, chick or baby bunny for Easter and it is now Christmas and no longer cute.  Press 25 if you want us to take your female dog who  has already had ten litters, but we can't spay her because she is pregnant again and it is against your religion.  Press 26 if you're lying to make one of our younger volunteers feel bad and take your personal pet off your hands.  Press 27 if your cat is biting and not using the litter box because it is declawed, but are not willing to accept the responsibility that the cat's behavior is altered because of your nice furniture. Press 28 if your two year old male dog is marking all over your house but you just haven't gotten around to having him neutered.  Press 29 if you previously had an outdoor only dog and are calling because she is suddenly pregnant.  Press 30 if you have done "everything" to housebreak  your dog and have had no success but you don't want to crate the dog because it is cruel.  Press 31 if you didn't listen to the message asking for an evening phone number and you left your work number when all volunteers are also working and you are angry because no one called you  back.  Press 32 if you need a puppy immediately and cannot wait because today is your daughter's birthday and you forgot when she was born.  Press 33 if your dog's coat doesn't match your new furniture and you need a different color or breed. Press 34 if your new love doesn't like your dog and you are too stupid to get rid of the new friend (who will dump you in the next month anyway)  instead of the dog.  Press 35 if you went through all these 'presses' and didn't hear enough.   This press will connect you to the sounds of tears being shed by one of our volunteers who is holding a discarded old dog while the vet mercifully frees him from of the grief of missing his family.
