Welcome to WGSPR, and the WONDERFUL WORLD OF SHORTHAIRS! We are a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving purebred German Shorthaired Pointers in Wisconsin. Our first priority are to GSP’s in kill shelters or other danger of euthanization. All of our charges are fostered in our homes, where we can test them with every day activities, other dogs, children, cats (when available), etc. All of our dogs available for adoption are fully vetted, altered, up-to-date on shots, heartworm free, and microchipped for ease of id! Although GSP’s were bred to be bird hunters, we cannot promise you that any of our dogs will hunt. We do test each dog for his or her capabilities with professional trainers. If they do hunt, it’s a bonus for you! We do offer training assistance for all our adopters. We save shorthairs, because it’s OUR PASSION! You can also find us on: PETFINDER!
· To start: Complete our adoption questionnaire · After review, a WGSPR Rescue representative will make initial contact with you to discuss via email or phone call, to answer any questions you, or we may have about your search for the right dog. · We will require a vet reference. (We are happy to refer you to a vet if needed for future!) · We DO require a home visit. We’ll arrange this at your convenience. We’d like all family members present when we come to see where our dog might live. · If you make it this far, we’ll start introducing you to dogs we feel would best fit your lifestyle. As a result of the slump in the economy, WGSPR is doing our best to shop for best vet deals, so we can offer YOU reduced adoption fees; as follows: Our adoption fees are: $300.00 adult dogs, $200.00 seniors 8 yrs+, $375.00 puppies under a yr old. Remember, your adoption fee merely pays the vet bills! THANK YOU to all the vets offering rescue a discount in our time of need! · Your dog will come fully vetted, altered, UTD on shots, heartworm free, Lyme disease tested, and microchipped for id. · We have a LIFETIME return policy.

Rebecca Klug, Vice President: Becca has been volunteering for WGSPR since she and Jared fostered and adopted their first GSP, Gunner. Since then have adopted Rocky and reached out to foster or give sanctuary to many other shorthairs that crossed our paths over the years. Becca holds down a full time job by day, by night, helps WGSPR with anything we need, you’ve seen her ‘work it’ at the shows; Becca goes to get a dog at the drop of a hat, makes check cords, does home visits, and foster training. |
Brian Hillshafer, Vol Hunt Evaluator, behavior modification. Brian has about 8 years of experience with the breed. Brian has his WI dog trainer lisc, and excels at handling our rescue hunt protégés and dogs with behavioral issues, as well as training adopters! Brian believes in positive training techniques. |
Jared Klug, Vol Hunt Evaluator, etc. Jared has his own soft place in his heart for shorthairs. He has two! You’ll see Jared working most shows, or being the “set up” guy behind the scenes, but he is WAY more then that...Jared has his WI dog trainer lisc and can get a good grasp on a dog’s prey drive with a quick walk in a field. I’d trust Jared with my dogs any day of the week! He’s been known to give them baths and is our official check cord maker as well (along with our secretary, and his wife, Becca)! Jared is a die hard for shorthairs, he’s even hauled them back from MI for us! |
John St.Clair, Vol Hunt Evaluator, and foster dad with the moistest; John is another softie when it comes to shorthairs. He has much experience with both genders! John holds his WI dog trainer lisc, and he works ‘em in the field; he introduces them to rope work, graduating to ecollar, and whistle commands. He is not afraid to potty train, or stop the runners and counter surfers dead in their tracks! John’s been known to drop everything to go nab a dog or help an adopter in need! |
